All things are good!

Hey everyone! Just a quick update, we haven't gotten the official all clear from Kimberly's Pediatrician, but the doctors that did her tests yesterday said that things look good! The cardiologist said that she does have a hole in her heart, but that its not uncommon to see this in young babies. In fact 20% of babies born have this type of hole and it usually closes up by itself. Less then 1% of people with this kind of hole ever have any problems because of it. However, he does want to see her again in a year just to check to make sure its not getting any bigger. She's been sleeping with the monitor for 3 nights now and it has only gone off once, just telling us her heart rate dropped kind of low, but she was in a very deep sleep so that is probably what caused it.

I hope you are all doing well!! Enjoy this picture, they are just too cute for words!!!

Little Miss Kimberly...

Hey! Just wanted to give you a quick update. Kimberly woke up from her nap yesterday and was having the same problems she had Saturday morning where here hands and feet were purple and around her lips were blue. So, I took her back in to the doctor and THANKFULLY we actually got to see OUR doctor and not the on call doctor. Dr. Geurkink (our pediatrician) said that it is possible that what the on-call doctor told us on Sunday is true, that it really might be just intermittent acrocyanosis. But, she would like to run some tests to make sure that there really is nothing else going on. So, we are going to have an echocardiogram (I think thats it) done to check her heart, a chest x-ray to check her lungs and an upper GI to check and see if reflux is causing the problems. We have the tests scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) so hopefully we will know something by the weekend, but it could take several days before the doctor gets the results. In the mean time they are going to give us an Apnea Monitor for while she is sleeping. This is just a monitor to alert us if her breathing changes any so that we can sleep knowing that we will be woken up if she starts having trouble. This is not a breathing machine, it doesn't help her in anyway, just alerts us if she's having a problem.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!! I know I am definitely glad that our doctor is going to look into this and rule everything else out. I wasn't very comfortable with the on-call doctor that we saw on Sunday, he seemed very non-chalant and just kept telling me not to worry. But, I can't help but worry when my child is turning blue and purple!!! So, hopefully within the next few days we will be able to figure out what is going on and it will be a minor problem.

On a positive note, we got the results of Kimberly's follow-up ultrasound on her kidneys. (Remember a couple of months she had to have the ultrasound and they found excessive fluid). Well the ultrasound showed that all the excessive fluid was gone, so it must have just been some left over from development, so we can stop her medicine for that and shouldn't have any more issues there!

Have a great day! :)

Update and a couple of pictures....

Good Morning :)

We took Kimberly to see the doctor on Sunday and he said that she had acrocyanois. Basically he said that her capillaries are still so small and immature and they were constricting in such a way that there was not enough oxygen getting to her extremities. He said that there wasn't anything they could do about it and it wasn't something to worry about. He said that it was probably an isolated incident and that it is very unlikely that it will happen again. He did say that while this is not necessarily common in babies, its not unheard of, so not to panic.

On another note, we take Kimberly in for a follow-up kidney ultrasound tomorrow morning. Hopefully this will show no more excessive fluid on her kidneys and we can stop giving her the medicine.

We'll let you know what happens!

AND......for your viewing pleasure a couple of pictures. I still haven't had time to sort through our vacation pictures, so I'll try to do that in a couple of days. For now I have a picture of the girls in their wagon for the very first time and one of them laying with Daddy on our picnic yesterday. It was such a gorgeous day outside and the girls LOVED watching the birds and just being outdoors. It looks like we're in for a fun filled summer! :) :)

Hope everyone is doing well! Talk to you soon!!

Just a Quick Update...

Hey everyone!! Not a lot of time to post now, but just wanted to post a quick update. We are home from vacation now. We had a blast up until the day we were supposed to come home. Kimberly woke up Saturday morning and her arms/hands and feet/legs were a VERY dark purple (almost black). So after calling our on-call pediatrician we were on an adventure to find the closest Pediatric ER that took our insurance. So, we ended up in Newport, TN at the Baptist Hospital. However, by the time we got seen by someone in the ER she had returned to normal color and was acting like nothing was wrong. So, the ER doctor gave us 2 options, have her admitted and they could observe her for 24 hours, or go on home where we could see our normal doctor. After calling our doctor back we decided that since she appeared to be ok at that time that we would come on home so they could treat her here if necessary. We were just given strict instructions to watch her very closely in the car and over night. We now have an appointment with our doctor in about an hour, so we'll see what they say. Their best guess is that she quit breathing in the night and thus her arms/legs weren't getting any oxygen. However, unless they can see her in the midst of the situation there is no way to know 100% what went on. We watched her overnight and she didn't appear to have any breathing issues and this morning she was mostly ok, her arms and hands were just a dark, dark red, but nothing as alarming as yesterday morning. But the doctor wants to see her this morning anyway so that they can at least document the situation in case it were to happen again.

When we have some more time I will post some pictures from our vacation. We had a FANTASTIC time!!!

Hope you are doing well!!!

4 Month Check Up and Vacation

Hey Everyone!!! We are leaving today for a nice long vacation with Mommy and Daddy. Not sure if there is internet where we are going, so you might have to wait a week for any more updates or pictures. We'll be back next Saturday, March 24. We are going to Gatlinburg, TN. This is our first trip to TN and boy are we excited!!!!

We had our 4 month check-up at the doctor yesterday. We both got a "clean bill of health"!! So...no more breathing treatments! YAY!!! We do still have to take the zantac for a couple more months, but that is helping us not spit up so much. Kimberly is still taking the antibiotic for the fluid on her kidney, but she will go and have another ultrasound in a couple of weeks and hopefully we will be given the all clear for that as well.

We are definitely growing!!!! Kathryn is now 14 pounds 11 ounces and Kimberly is 14 pounds 2 ounces. Kathryn is 25.5 inches tall and Kimberly is 25.75 inches tall. The doctor says we are beautiful and growing/developing right on schedule. When we hit 5 months old Mommy is going to start feeding us some rice cereal twice a day and then after we see the doctor on May 7 we get to start eating other solid foods. YAY!!!

Ok, Mommy says its time to go so that we can finish getting ready to leave for vacation. I hope you all have a great week and we'll catch up with you when we return from vacation!!

Pictures from the Hospital

Here are some of the girls first pictures...all taken in the hospital!

WELCOME! :)

Hey Everyone!! I have decided to create this blog to keep you all updated with pictures and videos (if you're lucky) and news on Kathryn and Kimberly. So, since this is the first post, here are the basics:

Kathryn Grace Jones was born on 11/6/06 at 7:45 a.m. weighing 5 pound 15 ounces and 19 inches long. Kimberly Renee Jones was born on 11/6/06 at 7:45 a.m. weighing 6 pounds 5 ounces and 19.5 ounces long. Yes the girls were both born at 7:45 a.m., but Kathryn did come out first.

In case you're interested, here is their Birth Story:

Sunday evening (11/5/06) we called the doctor because contractions were coming pretty regularly and the girls hadn't moved in a few hours. The doctor said he didn't think it was labor because the contractions weren't quite regular enough, but he was concerned about the lack of movement so he told me to come on down to Labor and Delivery so they could monitor the girls. After some monitoring, they determined that the girls were doing great, but they were concerned because my blood pressure was high. So they ran some tests for pre-eclampsia and while most of them came back normal, one of them was elevated. So, the doctor decided to keep me overnight to monitor my BP and then he was going to rerun all of the tests in the morning. He felt pretty confident that everything was ok, but just wanted to take the safe route.

Well about 3:30 that morning, I woke up feeling like I had to go to the bathroom and when I tried to sit up, I started feeling like something was leaking out of me. I thought maybe I was just leaking pee, but when I stood up there was a HUGE gush of fluid. Turns out...my water had broken. After a call to the doctor, it was determined that a c-section would happen at 7 a.m. (We had already had a c-section scheduled for Nov. 15 due to the position of the girls).

So at that point they started me on IV to prepare for the surgery. The doctor arrived about 6:30 to check and make sure the girls were still in their same positions, and they were so we were off to surgery. The c-section was an interesting experience. Probably the worst part for me was the spinal. The guy had to try 3 times to get it in and DH was not allowed in the room until they had that part done. Once that was done, things flew into fast gear and before I knew it the girls were here. Kathryn came out first and was in perfect condition. Kimberly came out next, but her lungs were full of fluid and she was not breathing. Thankfully the neonatologist was there and able to get her breathing. DH said it was scary seeing her laying there blue and not breathing. I did not know this was going on because all I could see was the blue sheet hanging in front of me. It didn't take them long to get her to breathe, but she did have to spend 24 hours in an incubator on oxygen.

The girls and I were all able to come home on Thursday 11/9/06 with no problems.

Now, here we are 4 months later and the girls are growing so fast!!! I promise to post some pictures, starting with birth pictures and working the way up to recent ones.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures and updates on here.

Have a fantastic day!
