Hey Everyone!! I have decided to create this blog to keep you all updated with pictures and videos (if you're lucky) and news on Kathryn and Kimberly. So, since this is the first post, here are the basics:
Kathryn Grace Jones was born on 11/6/06 at 7:45 a.m. weighing 5 pound 15 ounces and 19 inches long. Kimberly Renee Jones was born on 11/6/06 at 7:45 a.m. weighing 6 pounds 5 ounces and 19.5 ounces long. Yes the girls were both born at 7:45 a.m., but Kathryn did come out first.
In case you're interested, here is their Birth Story:
Sunday evening (11/5/06) we called the doctor because contractions were coming pretty regularly and the girls hadn't moved in a few hours. The doctor said he didn't think it was labor because the contractions weren't quite regular enough, but he was concerned about the lack of movement so he told me to come on down to Labor and Delivery so they could monitor the girls. After some monitoring, they determined that the girls were doing great, but they were concerned because my blood pressure was high. So they ran some tests for pre-eclampsia and while most of them came back normal, one of them was elevated. So, the doctor decided to keep me overnight to monitor my BP and then he was going to rerun all of the tests in the morning. He felt pretty confident that everything was ok, but just wanted to take the safe route.
Well about 3:30 that morning, I woke up feeling like I had to go to the bathroom and when I tried to sit up, I started feeling like something was leaking out of me. I thought maybe I was just leaking pee, but when I stood up there was a HUGE gush of fluid. Turns out...my water had broken. After a call to the doctor, it was determined that a c-section would happen at 7 a.m. (We had already had a c-section scheduled for Nov. 15 due to the position of the girls).
So at that point they started me on IV to prepare for the surgery. The doctor arrived about 6:30 to check and make sure the girls were still in their same positions, and they were so we were off to surgery. The c-section was an interesting experience. Probably the worst part for me was the spinal. The guy had to try 3 times to get it in and DH was not allowed in the room until they had that part done. Once that was done, things flew into fast gear and before I knew it the girls were here. Kathryn came out first and was in perfect condition. Kimberly came out next, but her lungs were full of fluid and she was not breathing. Thankfully the neonatologist was there and able to get her breathing. DH said it was scary seeing her laying there blue and not breathing. I did not know this was going on because all I could see was the blue sheet hanging in front of me. It didn't take them long to get her to breathe, but she did have to spend 24 hours in an incubator on oxygen.
The girls and I were all able to come home on Thursday 11/9/06 with no problems.
